About Us South Putnam has one of the strongest science departments that I have ever seen! All of our teachers come from a wide variety of backgrounds and previous experiences that help them relate to the students and the things they are going through. They have many years of experience in the classroom and on the job which allows them to set a high level of expectations for our kids!
They are devoted to our students success and well being. It is my pleasure to have the opportunity to brag about them here! We encourage our students to develop effective problem solving and study skills that will be essential to the learning process and will facilitate future success in collage or career development, as well as, developing outstanding character values. We thank you for your involvement in your child's education in advance, because we know we can count on you when the going gets tough! |
Who am I |
My name is Tracey Heet, and I am a graduate of Indiana State University with 2 bachelors of Science degrees, one in Geology and one in Science Education. I worked as a Geologist for a couple of years in Michigan right out of school. I enjoyed my job, however, it seemed to be lacking the bigger purpose for my life, so I went back to school and became a teacher. Teaching is where my mission lies.
I have a wonderful family of 5 and live here in Greencastle. My passions are Church, family, outdoor activities, & sailing. I am a very competitive person, and strive to do my best in everything, which might actually be a flaw. I am one of those people that believe there is nothing you can't do if you put your mind to it! Which has taken me in multiple directions throughout my life. I served in the US Air Force, as an M-60 machine gunner for the Security Specialist, for 8 years. I also am a veteran of Desert Storm, serving state side. The military was a very rewarding and challenging experience for me, and many of my values and motivation are driven by the various experiences that I faced. I graduated from South Vigo High School, in Terre Haute, were I was very competitive in Tae Kwon Do. I am a First Degree Black Belt and placed 3rd in the Nation in 1988. My competitive nature drove me into body building, so I began at an early age lifting weights with the high school football team. I got a second place in ISU's amateur body building competition in college. I am also a breast cancer survivor. In December of 2010 I began a long, very long, journey through chemotherapy, radiation, and many surgeries. I was not one of those resilient people that go in for treatment and to work the next day. I got deadly sick for about 5 days in a row after each treatment. Students were wonderful and the flood of support, letters, and cards that I received from my South Putnam family was overwhelming. I am very blessed to be here at this school! Add another notch in my belt for achievements :) Update: In March 2016, it was confirmed that I have matistic cancer around my intestines and in my bones. Currently going through more chemotherapy. |
Our History |
I don't share these things to brag about what I've done. Our history is used to share with kids that there are struggles in life and great accomplishments, but the key is to continue to put one foot in front of the other, no matter how big the mountain is in front of you. I share these things with kids so they know "You can do anything... ANYTHING that you want to do." I hope to continue to encourage kids and give them reasons to persevere, to look forward to their future, and to know that there is hope. Sometimes things seem to be going great, other days, not so much. Just keep your face to the sun and the darkness will fade away.
